‘Appy Days: The Mick Box
Column (No. 23)
This
week, Mick remembers the late David Byron and Keith Moon,
expresses relief at Abbey Road Studios being saved, recalls
meeting Kris Kristofferson, celebrates the Nordoff Robbins
charity, listens to Coverdale Page and has something to say
about the Number 25 bus route. Oh, and some football club
called Spurs win a match!
This week, Mick tastes dodgy airline food,
does more shows in Russia, experiences problems with his
dongle (!), sees some cool films, despairs about gambling
and gets his name misspelt. Oh, and goes on a bit about
Spurs.
This week, Mick’s on tour with Uriah Heep
in Russia where he gets involved in a bomb scare, drinks too
much vodka, is impressed with the beautiful laydees… oh, and
plays a couple of shows! To read Mick’s previous columns, go
This week. Mick celebrates the career of Neil Young,
looks at the Grammy winners list, sees French film with
subtitles, gets back into listening to Baby Animals,
Mountain and Black Stone Cherry, gets a new guitar, goes
back on the road with Uriah Heep… and sees Spurs slip!
This week, Mick looks at the state of the
music industry, comments on the death of
one-time Heep bassist Gary Thain’s mum,
remembers the late David Byron, ponders about
heavy metal as a religion – oh, and mentions
some footie team called Spurs!
The Celebration CD
will be released in North America on the 16th March
2010. The release is now out in all other territories, except
South America and Australia.

possible.

the New Year for us, as we will

Considered as
one of the pioneers of heavy metal and hard rock.
Deep Purple were listed by the Guinness Book of
Records as the world’s loudest band and ranked as
number 22 on VH1s Greatest Artists of Hard Rock.
They incorporate many sounds into their rock music
including classical, blues and pop. Deep Purple is
still one of the hardest touring bands in the world
and has continued to tour around the world since
1968. They’re most famous for their haunting hit –
Smoke On The Water.
Deep
Purple will be supported by Uriah Heep .
The technically brilliant heavy rock band ‘Uriah
Heep’ (taken from the character featured in the
Charles Dickens novel David Copperfield) have sold
over 30 million records and have had 5 US Top 40
albums. Their debut in 1970 was a simplistic bass
driven sound from electric folk to a direct harder
appeal. Uriah Heep were at the forefront of a richly
embossed, fastidious style of music later to be
dubbed as progressive rock.

URIAH HEEP Live in Hamburg
Hope And Glory". Ist das die feine englische Art?

Well
the 40th Anniversary Celebration tour of Europe is just over
half way through, and thus far it has been fantastic.
There have been plenty of sell outs, and there is a real buzz about the
band at the moment that feels really good. The set list has now
bedded down, and has been getting a fantastic response, and we
feel we are just getting into our stride. The first two shows of
the Concert Live Official Bootleg CD’s have gone down very well,
and we seem to be autographing an awful lot of them, so that is
a good sign.
The Celebration CD & CD/DVD have had excellent reviews along with the live
shows, so I can report it is a very happy Heep camp at the
moment. We have just finished a run of 6 consecutive shows, in 5
consecutive cities, which has been quite gruelling for the band
and crew, so it is nice to have a night off tonight to recharge
our batteries for the next run of shows. I am writing this in
our hotel in Aschaffenburg.
Next year is filling up already with confirmed shows in Greece, Russia,
South Africa, Germany, Finland and Poland to name but a few, so
it looks like a busy 2010.
A big thanks to all of you that have come to the shows thus far, and we
hope to see as many fans as we possibly can over the coming
months ahead.
